FAQ'S
How do I post my practice for sale on your marketplace?
Posting your practice is straightforward. Contact us to begin the process, where we will guide you through providing the necessary information and completing a statement of value to set an appropriate practice price.
What information do I need to provide to post my practice?
Once you've made the decision to post your practice on Williams Group marketplace, you will receive an onboarding package with the detailed information you will need to supply us in order to move forward. This will include documentation such as: financial statements, details about your practice (such as services offered, patient demographics, and equipment), and any relevant lease agreements. We’ll guide you through the specifics during the onboarding process.
Are there hidden fees I should be aware of?
There are no hidden fees. We are transparent about our costs, and any additional services, such as extended support or post-sale consulting, will be discussed upfront. We do not have any contracts during the posting phase.
How is the valuation of my practice determined?
Williams Group's accredited business valuator uses comprehensive data from your practice, such as financial performance, market conditions, and practice assets to provide a reliable estimate of your practice’s worth. Once this data is compliled, we will meet to recommend an asking price for your practice, but you will make the final decision.
How does Williams Group's statement of value differ from a full practice appraisal?
Our statement of value is similar to a full practice appraisal, conducted by our accredited business valuator using comprehensive information. However, it requires less detailed data, such as equipment serial numbers and the fine print of lease agreements. While this calculation is primarily for listing purposes, it remains highly accurate. A full appraisal is conducted once a buyer is found to finalize the sale.
Who sets the price for my practice, and can I negotiate?
You set the practice price. There is no need to negotiate when posting your practice for sale. We will offer guidance based on our statement of value to help you set a competitive price. Adjustments can be made based on buyer feedback or changing market conditions.
How does marketplace market my practice for buyer exposure?
Your practice will be posted on our Williams Group marketplace classifieds and promoted across various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter). We’ll also include it in our quarterly email newsletter, monthly email blasts, and paid advertising campaigns on Google and social media. Additionally, we reach out to state optometric associations, local chambers of commerce, optometric recruiters, and optometric schools to ensure maximum exposure.
How does Williams Group attract serious buyers for my practice?
Williams Group heavily markets your practice by leveraging our long-standing reputation in the industry and our partnerships with recruiting firms, optometric associations, and schools. These connections ensure that your practice reaches the right audience. We also vet potential buyers, so you won’t have to sift through every inquiry. Only serious buyers, who have signed NDAs, will be connected with you.
Can I choose how my practice is marketed on your platform?
While we have a proven marketing strategy, we understand that every practice is unique. We are open to discussing any specific marketing preferences you might have to tailor the approach to your needs.
What happens if my practice doesn't attract buyers?
If your practice doesn’t attract buyers within a reasonable timeframe, typically approaching the one-year mark, we will increase our marketing efforts. This includes revisiting the posting, enhancing the marketing strategy, and ensuring it remains visible to potential buyers.
What does the process look like for interested buyers?
Interested buyers must first sign an NDA to access detailed information about your practice. Serious inquiries will be followed by one-on-one conversations, and once a letter of intent is signed, the negotiation and final sale processes begin.
How long does it take a typical practice to sell?
The timeframe for selling a practice can vary, but it typically takes several months to a year. Factors like market conditions, practice location, and buyer interest plays a role in the timing.
How does the Williams Group's transaction management process work?
Once a letter of intent is signed, our transitions team will guide you through the negotiation and final sale process. We provide support via emails and phone calls. Our CPAs also play a crucial role in this process, helping to minimize taxes and maximize profits while ensuring the sale price remains attractive to the buyer.
How does Williams Group ensure confidentiality during the sale process?
Confidentiality is a priority and something we take very seriously. All interested buyers must sign an NDA before accessing detailed information about your practice. We only share the information you have approved.
How can I find a trusted attorney to draft and review the sales contract?
Williams Group is not a brokerage firm and will not provide legal advice, but we will point you in the direction needed for expert legal consultation specific to your situation.
What happens if my practice does not sell immediately?
If your practice doesn’t sell in the appropriate timeframe, we will revisit our marketing strategy and increase efforts to ensure it remains visible and attractive to potential buyers.
Can I post my practice with another service or broker during my time with you?
You may, however, it's not ideal. The rationale is that if one firm is investing significant effort to find buyers, it would be counterproductive if another firm sells the practice instead. Consequently, sellers might be tempted to engage multiple firms simultaneously to increase their chances of a sale. Similar to real estate firms, brokers generally operate on a commission basis and only receive payment upon successfully completing a sale.
If I find a buyer from another source, is my posting fee non-refundable?
The posting fee is non-refundable, as it covers the initial valuation, marketing, and posting efforts.
If my posting goes over a year, does my contract automatically renew at the posting fee, and am I preauthorized at that fee?
If your posting exceeds a year, we will reassess the marketing strategy. However, the contract automatically renew. Any additional fees will be discussed and agreed upon before renewal.
What kind of post-sale support does Williams Group offer?
After the sale, Williams Group offer support to tie up any loose ends and answer any remaining questions. Should you need further assistance, we offer additional consulting services at an hourly rate.
Can I remove my posting if I change my mind about selling?
Yes, you can remove your posting at any time. However, the initial posting fee is non-refundable and our contract will remain in tact.
Why should I choose Williams Group's marketplace over a broker or another platform?
The Williams Group marketplace offers specialized expertise in optometry, backed by a team of MBAs, CPAs, and consultants with decades of experience. We provide a more personalized and comprehensive service than a traditional broker, focusing on your unique needs and ensuring a seamless transition.
